Electric Vehicle Interest Surges Following Government Incentives
In a notable trend, Auto Trader has explored rising consumer interest in electric vehicles (EVs) following the government's recent Electric Car Grant announcement in July. This initiative has evidently sparked excitement among potential buyers, as seen in data gathered between July 15 and August 6. The most enquired EV on Auto Trader's platform is the MGS5, amassing an impressive 11.6% share of leads during this period.
Top EV Models Grabbing Attention
Ian Plummer, Chief Commercial Officer of Auto Trader, indicated that models from brands such as MG, Renault, and Skoda have seen significant popularity spikes. Notably, the Renault 5 E-Tech and the Skoda Elroq are among the most sought-after models, cementing their place in consumers' preferences. Not only have these vehicles drawn attention, but they are also part of a broader shift, with new EVs priced under £37,000 taking a larger share of advert views on the site, increasing by ten percentage points since the grant's announcement.
Increased Leads for Affordable Models
Before the grant, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) accounted for only 21% of leads on Auto Trader; however, this number leaped to 26% by August 4. Particularly compelling is the rise of BEVs priced below £37,000, with their share of leads swelling from 39% to a noteworthy 49%.
A Competitive Market Attracting Interest
The excitement isn't limited to just a few models. The competition is heating up as over a dozen automakers introduce their own versions of the grant to attract buyers, leading to some brands experiencing triple the interest on Auto Trader's site. Such incentives are crucial at a time when the EV market is evolving significantly.
The increasing demand for EVs underscores a pivotal moment in automotive choices, driven by governmental support and evolving consumer preferences. As the industry continues to adapt and respond, it remains essential for potential buyers to stay informed of these trends.
